Bad Wiring In Your Home

GoHero Home Services Electric Wiring

There are visible signs that show that the wiring in your home is faulty. A good example is dimming lights, frequently blown fuses, darkened outlets, and switches.

To protect your home, be aware of these potential causes of fire hazards so you can seek the help of a professional electrician as soon as possible.

Dimming Or Flickering lights

A problem with light fixtures cannot cause dimming or Flickering because light fixtures usually use only a small amount of power. The issue will likely be traced to energy hogs like major appliances connected to the same circuit. To resolve this, hire a professional electrician to move the lights to different circuits or install dedicated lines for your major appliances.

Burning Smells

If your nose catches a burning smell coming from an outlet, turn it off immediately and unplug anything connected to it. Please ensure a qualified electrician checks it out before using it again.

Sparking

Dealing with sparks can be tricky as it depends on their source. Contact your electrician immediately if a breaker panel or an outlet is sparking. If it’s a sparking appliance we’re dealing with here, it probably means the fixture itself is faulty, in which case, call a licensed electrician to come to check it out. If the appliance is new, it can be repaired under warranty.

Buzzing Or Crackling Sounds

Most people can hear electricity and assume it is normal, whereas it isn’t. A buzzing or crackling sound from your outlet is a sign that there is a problem. Stop using the faulty outlet and call an electrician.

The Wrong Outlets In The Kitchen Or Bathroom

Kitchens and bathrooms need special shock-resistant outlets called ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs). This is because water makes a good conductor of electricity, and the two areas in your home that deal with a lot of water are your kitchen and bathroom.

Frayed Wires

If just one area in your home is having electrical issues, check the wiring for the switches, outlets, and all other appliances plugged into an outlet in that area. If you notice that any wires are frayed, have them replaced as soon as possible.

How To Deal With Faulty Wiring?

Homeowners who do not have electrical experience should avoid fixing or replacing the wiring in their homes. There are many codes, industry standards, and safety codes to be followed, and only a qualified electrician knows to follow these standards when working with electrical wiring. And so, for all of your future wiring needs, contact a licensed professional electrician.
